Bicycle lock cable

A theft-resistant cable, comprises a core defined by a plurality of layers of at least a first material interspersed by layers of at least a second material. The first material is a high compressive strength material preferably metal or metal alloy such as steel titanium or a titanium alloy, or a composite material. The second material is a friction-reducing material preferably PTFE or graphite. Each layer of the first material may have a thickness of 0.1-0.4 mm. Each layer of the second material may have a thickness of 0.02-0.2 mm. The core may be sandwiched by aramid tape layers (4, Figure 2) and a glass braid (5) may hold the cable together and provide some heat protection against blow torch attack. The cable can be used for a bicycle lock and exhibits resistance against shear fracture or brittle facture as the layers slide over each other.
