The facing building member 30 has a front face 32 and a rear side 34, the rear side being profiled by cutting with a water jet to provide a mechanical key. There may be a plurality of keys provided by a regular pattern of recesses 36, 38 separated by projections 40, 42. The recesses may have a dovetail profile having rounded edges. The facing building member may be a brick slip formed by cutting an original brick into two identical slips. The original building member may be a moulded clay brick. The rear side may be inclined such that the distance between the rear and front faces decreases across the building member. The building member may be a corner member having a side face. The cutting water jet may include garnet solid abrasive. Also claimed is a method of forming a cladding panel comprising forming a plurality of the facing building members, locating them in a required pattern in a mould, and locating a settable material onto the rear of the facing building members to form a panel once set. The settable material may be fibre reinforced ultra high performance concrete.
