A photoreactor 2 including a first end piece 23, a second end piece 25, and a plurality of elongate reactor tubes 28,30 extending between the first end piece and the second end piece, the reactor tubes being axially distributed to define a lamp receiving recess (Fig 5; 44). Each reactor tube may be connected by a fluid connector 36,38 so that each tube 28,30 is in fluid connection with at least one other reactor tube 28,30. Preferably fluid flows through a first reactor tube in a first direction and in an adjacent reactor tube in a second, preferably opposite. There may be an inner tube in the lamp receiving recess (Fig 5; 44) and an outer tube surrounding the reactor tubes, where the inner tube 20 and outer tube 4 may be sealingly connected to the first 23 and second end piece 25 to form a vessel. The reactor tubes may be arranged in an inner 28 and outer concentric array 30. There may also be a cooling fan (Fig 5; 19). Also described in a photochemical process using the photoreactor 2. The photoreactor 2 may be used with high power lamps (Fig 5; 42).
