An electrode wire for wire electrical discharge machining includes a core wire portion consisting of a steel and a coating layer covering an outer circumferential side of the core wire portion and consisting of a copper-zinc alloy. The coating layer is disposed so as to include a surface of the electrode wire for wire electrical discharge machining. The coating layer consists of a γ single phase. The coating layer has a surface roughness Ra of 0.08 µm or less in a circumferential direction. The coating layer has a surface roughness Ra of 0.08 µm or less in a longitudinal direction.
