The invention relates to a method for preparing a powder based on oxide(s) of yttrium, of aluminium and optionally of at least one other element, comprising the following steps: a) a step of adding at least one monomer and at least one polymer from the polyether family to a solution comprising yttrium, aluminium and optionally at least one other element, the yttrium, the aluminium and optionally at least the other element being in cationic form, the monomer(s) comprising at least one ethylenic group and at least one polar group capable of forming hydrogen bonds; b) a step of obtaining a gel trapping said solution by polymerization of the monomer(s) added in a); c) a step of obtaining a xerogel by dehydration of the gel obtained in b); d) a step of obtaining said powder by heat treatment of the xerogel obtained in c).
