“Through the Eye of a Journalist” is an essay written by Shibaryotaro in 1948, which is considered to be his earliest work after the World War Ⅱ . This original essay hasn’t been discussed until author found its reference in Prange database. This essay shows an important process of Shiba when he worked in Kyoto as a religionary journalist. At the beginning, Shiba was deeply involved into nihilism. He can’t help making sarcastic comments on the present situation of Japanese Buddhism. Value is denied and suspected. When time goes by, he changed his mind to Buddhist and became criticizing GHQ’s policy, which means, a new type of nationalism of Shiba was built up.
