Weltweite Fremdenfeindlichkeit: Erklärungsansätze und Versuche interkultureller Erziehung

Beginning with the general explanation of hostility towards foreigners the author argues that the phenomenon of hostility towards foreigners in the Federal Republic of Germany exists all over the world. This requires to his mind a more differentiated approach - e. g. it is necessary to consider the negative economic and social development such as it has been produced by economic recession and unemployment in the First as well as in the Third World. The quoted investigations prove the existence of tendencies of hostility towards foreigners in the Federal Republic of Germany, of social stigmatization of migrant workers, esp. Turks, and their structural discrimination which even their children experience at school. The presentation of indicators of hostility towards foreigners is followed by an elucidation of four theoretical approaches of explanation (the paradigm "stigmatization" as a sociological approach, the paradigm "prejudice" as a psychological approach, the paradigm "racism" as an ideologic-critical approach, and the paradigm "competition" as an economic approach). Subsequently the author discusses strategies to overcome the effects of stigmatization. (DIPF/Orig.)
