Census of Retail Trade, 1987. Special Report Series: Selected Statistics

The 1987 Census of Retail Trade, part of the 1987 Economic Censuses, covered retail trade as defined in the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Manual. It included all establishments primarily engaged in selling merchandise for personal or household consumption and rendering services incidental to the sale of the goods. The census provides basic information on location, kind of business, sales, payroll, number of employees, and legal form of organization. The report series presents data for the following areas: the United States as a whole; each State and the District of Columbia; each consolidated metropolitan statistical area (CMSA) and primary metropolitan statistical area (PMSA); and each metropolitan statistical area (MSA).
