AoA/ACTION Joint Initiative for the Vulnerable Elderly: A Reference Guide forDeveloping In-Home Senior Companion Services to the Vulnerable Elderly

The project was funded to augment the Senior Companion Program of the SeniorCitizens Council. The project was primarily funded by the state stipulating that Senior Companions serve clients in a state institution for the mentally retarded. The project's small ACTION grant provided Senior Companions for hospitalized veterans. The concept of in-home Senior Companion service was new to this established project. The guide is a self-help tool for Senior Companion Project Directors and Advisory Councils who want to increase the size and scope of their projects. The project increased its Volunter Service Years by 16% through the help of the AoA/ACTION Joint Initiative for the Vulnerable Elderly.
