Tennessee Project CARE: Eldercare Coalition Demonstration Program

The goal has been to build coalitions of local businesses and organizations tomeet the ongoing needs of low-income frail elderly who, without some assistance, would be at risk of losing their independence. Priority needs were identified in an open forum, with the greatest needs being: (1) Information and Referral, (2) Financial Management, (3) In-Home Services, and (4) Volunteer Chore Services. Twelve agencies and organizations joined forces to develop and/or expand services to address these areas of need. Seventeen unduplicated people were provided direct services, with a value of over $40,000 which includes in-kind donated time. These programs were structured so that at the end of the project they could be merged into the aging network without requiring additional staff.
