摘要

The study is the first national study of substance use, suicide attempts, andother at-risk behaviors among youth with runaway, throwaway, or homelss experience. Information from four sources is included in the study: youth in shelters, youth on the streets, youth in households, and directors of youth shelters. The study makes recommendations on how to improve services for youths with these kinds of experiences. It notes that services must address the continuum of need from primary prevention to intervention and treatment. Furthermore, services must be community-based, accessible, and comprehensive.
