Species Codes for the Trees of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands

A listing, with appropriate codes, of all the tree species of Puerto Rico and theU.S. Virgin Islands, is presented here. All species were reported in field investigations conducted during the last four decades at the International Institute of Tropical Forestry. The revision was primarily done according to Little and others (1988). This list is primarily used by International Institute of Tropical Forestry scientists for codifying field data. Because other reserch teams also have a need to codify tree species data, these codes have been made available to provide uniformity and facilitate forestry research in Puerto Rico. This publication is a modification of two previous unpublished compilations, and supersedes both.
