Evaluation of Expert System SHAMAN in Processing Gamma-Ray Spectra at theComprehensive Test Ban Treaty Prototype International Data Center

摘要

Airborne radionuclide monitoring has been chosen to be one of the maintechnologies in monitoring compliance with the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). After particulate and gaseous samples are collected, the gamma spectra of the samples are acquired and sent to the International Data Center IDC to be analyzed. SHAMAN, an expert system for nuclide identification developed at the Helsinki University of Technology, has been installed at the Prototype IDC (PIDC) and its capabilities are being assessed in this environment. During this project, the performance of SHAMAN has improved as a result of development of its basic identificaiton methodology and addition of application-specific knowledge.
