Wavelets for Detection of Transient Signals

A review of basic wavelet theory is given, with particular emphasis on211u001eapplications in signal processing. Several methods for detecting transient 211u001esignals in a noisy background are presented. It is shown how the classical 211u001ematched filter detector can be efficiently computed in the wavelet domain. The 211u001ewavelet based matched filter is shown to have greater flexibility and superior 211u001eperformance compared to its classical time domain counterpart. The wavelet based 211u001ematched filter algorithm is implemented in Matlab.
