This document presents performance guidelines for the design and development of211u001eroad departure warning systems to improve vehicle safety by eliminating or 211u001emitigating road departure crashes through driver notification or warning. 211u001ePerformance guidelines are presented for two classes of road departure warning 211u001esystems: (1) Lane drift warning systems (LDWS) designed to warn in the event of 211u001ean unintentional drift out of the travel lane, and (2) Curve speed warning 211u001esystems (CSWS), designed to warn if the vehicle is approaching a curve too fast 211u001efor the current conditions. These guidelines are intended to be used by 211u001emanufacturers and developers of road departure warning systems as a tool to 211u001estandardize system requirements, driver interface, and test procedures.
