HUTSIM: Urban Traffic Simulation and Control Model: Principles and Applications

The subject of this thesis is the development of a general purpose urban traffic211u001esimulator. The overall aim has been to develop a versatile planning and research 211u001etool for detailed examination of the traffic process and its interactions. With a 211u001esimulator it is possible to examine the traffic system in a controlled way and 211u001ewithout disturbing the actual traffic. Numerous different alternatives can be 211u001etested in order to choose the most suitable one. For evaluation the simulator 211u001eproduces various measures that indicate the efficiency, safety and emissions of 211u001ethe traffic. The animation provided by the simulation is very useful in 211u001edemonstrating different alternatives to decision makers and for general public.
