摘要

In 2000, Vermont joined 40 other states in adding HIV infection to the list ofreportable diseases. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS. Making HIV reportable means that laboratories, hospitals, physicians and other heath care providers are required to report all cases of HIV to the Vermont Department of Health. Under Vermonts law, individual cases of HIV are reported using a unique identifier rather than the infected individuals name, as is the case with AIDS reporting. Reports of individuals infected with HIV include demographic information such as gender, age and race/ethnicity of the infected individual, as well as date of diagnosis and stated risk factors for HIV exposure. As more data are collected over time, the statistics in this report will be modified in future publications.
