ETS and Smoking Control in Families: A WIC Trial

This study tested a behavioral counseling intervention designed to reduceenvironmental tobacco smoke (ETS) exposure among babies under age 1. Specific aims were to (1) determine the effects of clinic-based behavioral counseling on ETS exposure among babies of low socioeconomic status (SES), as measured by mothers' reports and babies' urine cotinine analyses; (2) validate parent-reported ETS exposure participation on the mothers' smoking rate and the proportion of mothers who quit smoking; (4) explore health outcome measures associated with decrease ETS exposure; and (5) identify possible determinants of ETS exposure.
