Luotettavuusteknisten Menetelmien Soveltaminen Urheiluhallin Poistumisturvallisuuden Laskentaan. (Application of Reliability Techniques for Calculation of the Evacuation Safety of a Sports Hall.)
This report describes a study on the use of reliability methods for conducting fire safety analyses. The methods were applied to evaluate the evacuation safety of a sports hall in a situation where a pole jump mattress is ignited during a public event. The applied reliability methods were the Cornell method, Hasofer-Lind method and Monte Carlo method. All methods proved to be suitable for studying the selected case. In this particular case, the methods also gave very similar results as was expected based on the theory of these methods. The results indicated that the evacuation safety of the sports hall appears to be good in the studied fire scenario. The biggest problem with the use of these methods is obtaining reliable initial data. This applies particularly to evacuation, which is depending on the behaviour of the occupants; e.g. how they react to the observation of a fire and how and through which routes they will escape to safety from the threat posed by the fire.
