摘要

The SAGE Project funded by USAIDs Office of Women in Development (G/WID) was initiated in March 1999. Presently SAGE is operating in Guinea, Mali, and is launching its activities in Ghana, Congo and El Salvador. SAGE program aims at contributing to improve girls education in the DRC by increasing girls attendance and performance in primary schools in the Katanga Province through a multi-sectoral approach. To ensure results within a year, the pilot project will only concentrate on the city of Lubumbashi. At that time and because of the Brooke Amendment (The Brooke Amendment prevents intervention in public schools at this time), only private co-ed and girls schools in Lubumbashi benefiting from the joint GOC/UNICEF EDUCATION PROGRAM are targeted, thus setting the total number of SAGE schools at 6 see sage Congo design report. The selection criteria included equitable distribution in terms of geography and type of convention schools; therefore, we have one per commune (five (5) communes in Lubumbashi), and each of the main religious denomination involved in education (Catholic, Protestant, and Kibanguiste) is represented.
