Youth Mortality in the United States, 1935-2007: Large and Persistent Disparities in Injury and Violent Deaths

In this brief report, we analyze long-term trends in U.S. youth mortality rates according to sex, race/ethnicity, state of residence, and cause of death by using both historical and the latest national vital statistics data. The overall trend in youth mortality has been driven by trends in three leading causes of death: unintentional injuries, homicide, and suicide.
