Support Program for Ex-Combatant Children - Colombia. 24th Quarter Report January-March 2007.

During the period of January-March 2007, the Program for Ex-combatant Children funded by USAID and implemented with the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare ICBF- and other government institutions, 73 new boys and girls disengaged from Illegal Armed Groups (IAG) entered the program, for a total of 3,103 since the beginning of the program. Out of this total, 254 are indigenous and/or Afro-Colombian Children. This quarter, the Program provided assistance and protection services to 519 children and youths. Regarding the New Childhood and Adolescence Code, through which boys and girls are acknowledged as owners of rights and Family, Society and State are jointly responsible for the wellbeing and protection of children, the Program continued supporting its implementation through government institutions, civil society organizations and NGOs. The Program continues strengthening interinstitutional coordination between the ICBF and the Alta Consejeria para la Reintegracion Social y Economica de Grupos y Personas Alzados en Armas--ACRSE--(High Council for Social and Economical Reintegration)to build a single and continuous process for the social and economical reintegration of youths.
