Pitch Control by Combined Alkali and Aluminum Sulfate Addition. Some Principles in Controlling Pitch Troubles

A set of experiments was conducted with Pinus sylvestris ground wood to give an orientation on suit­able combinations of alkali and aluminum sulfate. Four levels each of sodium hydroxide addition and aluminum sulfate addition were used. Sodium hy­droxide was first added to the pulp system followed by five minutes of stirring. The aluminum sulfate was added and the felts inserted.
