This report is a sequel to the author's NRL Report 5086, “Satellite Launching Trajectory Calculations - General Description of NAREC Programs for the Two-Dimensional Case.” The general approach used there was specifically intended to accommodate the Vanguard vehicle, although parts of trajectories for other vehicles have also been calcu-lated. It was anticipated that other vehicles could be fitted into the pro¬gram design philosophy outlined earlier. Certain features described in Report 5086, however, proved too restrictive -particularly with respect to the number of stages that could be accommodated and with respect to coasting flights between stages. In the course of preparing a multi-stage program for the calculation of zero-lift trajectories, a number of revisions and extensions of concepts expressed in Report 5086 were made.nBecause all programs were done in basic NAREC coding, which allows only fixed point arithmetic, the formulas for apogee calculations were rescaled to permit greater distances and higher velocities. The procedure used to select suitable trajectories in some of the programs frequently collapsed when they were used for vehicles radically different from Vanguard, resulting in considerable loss of time. The program described in this report was constructed with many features which ren¬der it more efficient in such cases.
