COBOL Analysis and Translate System (CATS). Technical Note

CATS is a COBOL-to-COBOL analyzer/translator originally developed for use on the B3500/4700 computers at the project sites. Specifically designed grammar tables for the COBOL compilers in use at the time (RCA 3301, 70/45, IBM 360 series, B3500/4700 and Honeywell 1800) were included in the CATS software to provide a capability to analyze and translate COBOL programs targeted for conversion. The structure of CATS allows for the following functions: (1) Analyze and upgrade; (2) Translate; (3) Single source maintenance. Primary use of CATS is to pre-condition programs prior to conversion.
