This report presents the results of the first part of a project to develop specifications for standard concrete ties for rapid transit use. The report is presented in five sections:Section 1estimates the market potential of concrete ties for the transit industry. Section 2presents a technical and economic evaluation of concrete ties based on international experience. Section 3presents parameters necessary for the design of standard concrete ties for rapid transit use. Section 4covers the preliminary specifications for the materials,fabrication and handling of the standard concrete ties.
