Determination of the Frequency of Precipitation in Excess of Design Criteria at More Than a Single Location During a Hydrologic Season.

Stream contamination by agricultural wastes and chemicals,such as pesticides,fertilizers and animal excretions,can be minimized by impounding the runoff from the affected areas in settling basins or artificial lagoons (Wisner 1973). The design size of these lagoons depends on the expected rainfall amount and intensity,the physical condition of the soil,topography of the region and the size of the drainage area. The study deals exclusively with the rainfall characteristics and all other factors are assumed to be known and constant. Underestimating the runoff from excessive rainfall may result in an overflow of diverted water and stream pollution.
