Conceptual Framework for Occupational Health Surveillance

This document explores the current state of the art in occupational health surveillance. A flow diagram is presented which shows how various sources of data can be combined to facilitate the flow of information necessary for a better understanding of occupational health hazards. Information derived from such a program will permit the systematic identification of high-risk occupational groups, relate exposures to specific health outcomes, and provide data which are prerequisite for the prioritization of needs in research, evaluation, and control. A comparison is made with surveillance systems in other countries.
