One of the most important parts of a National Register nomination form is the photographic documentation of the property. Photographs can be used to 'interpret' the condition of a structure and show the structure in the context of its environment. Not only can a photograph serve as a historic document but it can also be used for publications, exhibits, and myriad other purposes. Photographs should, therefore, be of the highest possible quality. This publication presents information which serves as suggestions to help states achieve better quality in their photographic documentation of buildings and architectural details with existing staff and often limited budgets.
