Occupational Licensing: A Public Perspective

This book was prepared to make consumer and public interest groups aware of the impact of licensing on their lives. It explains how the regulatory system works, the impact of licensing on the supply of practitioners, competition, the optimum utilization of manpower ad the interstate mobility of skilled workers and professionals. Two shortcomings of the present system are examined: (1) the failure of licensing boards to protect the public from incompetent or dishonest practitioners and (2) the failure of the system to assure the continued competence of licensees.
