摘要

Meaning-related ERP difference in receptive language processing and feasibility of using scalp recorded EEG data in neurophysiology of language processing were studied. Results indicate that ERP differences are largest over the left hemisphere, particularly over left-frontal areas although they are distributed over other scalp areas and involve more than a single ERP temporal epoch, demonstrating the feasibility of using scalp recorded EEG data in decoding speech signals and determining which cortical areas are involved at specific points in the sequence of language processing. They also indicate a significant role for the anterior speech area in understanding speech of others. The left-anterior scalp area has consistently shown to be the area of greatest meaning-related ERP difference in receptive language processing experiments.
