Summary of the Loggerhead Sea Turtle Research Project Conducted at Canaveral National Seashore, Cumberland Island National Seashore, Cape Lookout National Seashore: A Final Report

A two-year investigation of sea turtle nesting was conducted at three national seashores, Cape Lookout (North Carolina), Cumberland Island (Georgia), and Cape Canaveral (Florida) by the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. Virtually all nesting was by loggerhead sea turtles, Caretta caretta, a species listed as threatened under the provisions of the Endangered Species Act. Population estimates of the number of nesting female loggerheads for each park are given. Data on tagging, nesting, nest predation, number of hatchlings, and other variables are also presented for each of the three national seashores.
