摘要

The project was designed to determine whether backbarrier dredging for the KingsBay Naval Base is affecting marsh habitat sustainability on Cumberland Island. Research was predicated on the hypothesis that if thhe operation is indeed exerting an influence on Cumberland Island, it will most likely be first perceived in the effect it has on the rates of supply and delivery of sediments to the marshes and mudflats. The authors located three comparable sites, which experience a different level of exposure to the effects of dredging. Second, we initiated a time-series of marsh/mudflat sedimentation measurements, which are expected to be contiued in future years. Finally, we compared six different methods for monitoring sedimentation, all of which are currently in practice.
