Evaluations of NIADDK's (National Institute of Arthritis, Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases) Center Programs

The NIADDK's Centers programs have been initiated and expanded in the last decade in order to facilitate the diffusion and dissemination of biomedical research advances to the scientific community, practitioners of medicine, and the general public. The report presents the three main general expectations of the centers, namely that they will produce knowledge that improves health care and health status, that they will transfer this knowledge, and that they will implement effective processes for producing and transferring this knowledge. Seven overall evaluation topics are presented: Overall Diabetes Research and Training Center (DRTC) and Multipurpose Arthritis Center (MAC) programs, Measuring Center Contributions to the Research of Center Investigators, Cores, Pilot, Developmental and Feasibility Studies, Student Education and Training, Professional Training and Outreach, MAC Activities and Findings in Patient and Public Education and Community Health Care.
