Automation of Welding of High Toughness Superhigh Tension Steel (Kojinsei Chokochoryokuko no Yosetsu no Jidoka)

摘要

High toughness superhigh tension steel of 80 kgf/sq mm class (proof stress 0.2%) is used for the inner hulls of submarines. High performance covered electrodes are used for welding this steel. To further stabilize the weld quality, a study was made of a MIG welding process which produces higher performance welds than arc welding process with covered electrode. A new welding process applying the oscillating process or pulsed arc welding process, as well as a welder suited to the joint shapes, was developed. Experimental results obtained show that the new welding process can automatically produce various kinds of joints of uniform quality.
