Postoperative Recovery Mechanisms and Retention

摘要

Recovery of functions after injuries to the cerebral cortex and relation of observations obtained from such injuries to theories of cerebral organization and to discover rationales for approaches to treatment of clinical amnesias were studied. Conclusions drawn from these studies include the denial of the theory that certain long-term memories are stored as modifications of the structure of the cerebral cortex; that the cortex performs as a whole despite having regionally specific involvements in other kinds of functions; and that retrograde amnesias of victims of cerebral strokes are not due to losses of memorial substrates and in principle, should be reversible.
