摘要

The study was designed to examine the auditory, perceptual, and psycholinguistic skills of unilaterally hearing-impaired children. Case history information on the 60 children with unilateral hearing loss revealed that about 50 percent had to repeat one grade and/or needed resource help in the schools. Predictably, all of the children with unilateral hearing loss were found to experience difficulty localizing in space to both high frequency and low frequency signals. All of the children experienced considerable problems with a syllable recognition tasks especially under noise conditions. This was true even when the primary stimulus was directed to the good ear while noise was presented to the poor ear. Language problems appear to be evident especially with those children who failed in the schools and/or those who exhibited severe to profound hearing impairments.
