摘要

The Office of Hearings and Appeals (OHA) was created in 1970 in order to put all of the quasi-judicial and appellate responsibilities of the Interior Department into one office. Interior's quasi-judicial and appellate responsibilities stem from the Secretary's authority to settle legal cases pertaining to public lands and their resources, including land selections arising under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act; surface mining; contract disputes; Bureau of Indian Affairs decisions; and Indian probate matters.
