Tests were run to evaluate the braking performance of a two axle air braked straight truck with and without its European design production antilock system operational. Straight line stops, stops in a turn and stops in a lane change were utilized in the evaluation. Test surfaces included dry asphalt, wet asphalt, wet polished concrete, wet sealed (Jennite) asphalt, ice and a split (left to right) coefficient of friction roadway. Test speeds ranged from 20 to 60 mph and the vehicle was run empty as well as fully loaded. Panic (full treadle) and driver best effort (modulated) brake applications were made at each test condition. The report describes the test program and analyzes the data to determine the braking performance gains provided by the antilock system.
