The Synopsis of the country monographs presents a review and summary of the information provided on quantities and characteristics of wastes arising; waste management economics and financing; institutional and legislative structures adopted for waste management; waste collection, transport, treatment and disposal systems; key health and environmental issues; and future institutional, management and technical requirements. Besides being a source of relevant information for the participants, the synopsis is also intended to act as a stimulus for discussion of present waste management practices and problems during the Symposium.
