The autumn buttercup is federally listed as endangered and is known from one small population of about 200 plants in a wet meadow on land owned by The Nature Conservancy near Bear Valley Junction in Garfield County, Utah, and four plants at The Arboretum at Flagstaff (Arizona). The species was listed as endangered on July 21, 1989 (54 F.R. 30550). The species has been assigned a recovery priority of 6 which indicates the plant is a subspecies with a high degree of threat with a low recovery potential.
