The Distributed ImplementatioN GeneratOr (DINGO) generates C++ code fordistributed, prototype implementations of systems described in the International Standard Formal Description Technique, Estelle. The input to DINGO is in the form of objects generated by the Portable Estelle Translator (PET) developed at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. DINGO generates code that implements all Estelle. The generated C++ must be compiled using a C++ compiler and then linked with runtime libraries to produce a set of executable programs to be run as a set of operating system processes on one or more interconnected machines. The distribution of modules over operating system processes and over sites of a distributed system is controlled by the user. Elements of an X-Window interface may also be generated by DINGO, so that individual modules can be monitored by the user. The user may also manipulate the generated code and/or provide primitives to extend the resulting prototype implementations or to interface with other applications. The document is an overview of the system and a user guide.
