Investigation of the Harrower-Erickson Modification of the Rorschach Test

Distributions of Harrower-Erickson scores for an enlisted and for a commissioned group of candidates for Submarine School are presented. The proportion of test failures is higher for the enlisted group than for the officer group. A table showing the correspondence between test scores and overall psychiatric classifications for 99 enlisted men indicate some slight promise in the method, but the relationship in these data is not statistically reliable. A similar break down for psychiatric classification for the officers shows no reliable differentiation by test scores. Of eight enlisted men manifesting some degree of emotional disturbance during the course of training in the use of the submarine escape appliance, two failed the Harrower-Erickson test at the cut-off score of 5.
