SCANLINE: A Computer Program for Converting Raster Maps into Line Maps

A computer program, algorithms and techniques are described that can be used for transforming a map digitized on a raster scanner, in bit matrix form, into a line map represented by a set of vectors, which is a format very suitable for processing by computer. By means of such a program and techniques of this kind, the conversion of a very large number of existing cartographic maps into digital line maps becomes economically feasible.
