Delft Image Analysis Laboratory. A Multi-User Facility for Research, Development and Education in Image Analysis Methods

Hardware and software of the Delft Image Analysis Laboratory are described. The research character of the system's use entails the sharply contrasting requirements of fast processing and flexible programming. By using the custom-developed pipelined DIP-1 image processor, all basic image-processing operations can be performed rapidly (most operations only need a fraction of a second). Other dedicated image-processing computers will supplement DIP-1's computing power. The required programming flexibility is catered for by a custom-developed software system, while interactive use is facilitated by a custom-developed image-processing command language interpreter.
