Construction and Analysis of a Low Order Spectral Model of the Barotropic Potential Vorticity Equation in a beta Channel

摘要

A low order spectral model is derived from the barotropic potential vorticity equation in a beta channel. The conservative and dissipative cases are distinguished. Both systems are analyzed mathematically. The dissipative model is similar to that of Egger (1981), however, a different value for the Beta parameter and a constant width of the channel are taken, changing quantitative aspects.
