Principles of a Low-Cost Laser Gyro for Rotating Vehicles and Platforms

The construction principles for a low-cost laser gyro are outlined. During the development of this sensor everything was done to reduce the laser gyro to its basic elements, without adversely affecting the typical advantages of the gyro. It is demonstrated that a laser gyro without high-quality mirrors and without sophisticated stabilization circuits yields a gyroscope whose performance is comparable to that of a glass-fiber gyro.
