Controlling Regular and Chaotic Dynamics in the Duffing-Ueda Oscillator

The control of the electrical oscillator which is modeled by the Duffing-Uedaequation is investigated. Two control schemes are suggested: the addition of an external weak force operating in a closed loop, and a model based control scheme. The first is concerned with suppressing chaos by means of adding an external weak force to the input driving oscillator. The second procedure uses a reference model to produce appropriate signals for the oscillator. It is shown that this control scheme is effective in regulating and in track problems. A procedure for determining the model of the system is discussed. A discrete model of the oscillator is used. A procedure for identifying models based on nonlinear autoregressive moving average model with exogenous inputs is indicated.
