Equations are derived for the calculation of the natural frequencies of shell vibration of pressurized, thin-walled, circular cylinders which are empty, partly filled, or full of liquid. In this type of vibration the axis of the cylinder is undeformed and the cross-section shape deforms during the vibration. The derivation follows a Rayleigh-Lagrange proce¬dure, in which expressions for kinetic and potential energy are developed in terms of the displacements of the cylinder, the displacement shapes are assumed, and Lagrange's equations are applied to give a set of linear simultaneous equations of motion which, upon substitution of simple harmonic motion, yield a fre¬quency determinant.
