The 'Survey of Personal Magnetic Field Exposure' is one of several engineering211u001eresearch projects of the EMF Research and Public Information Dissemination 211u001e(RAPID) Program. The objective of this project is to characterize personaI 211u001emagnetic field exposure of the general population, by performing personal 211u001eexposure measurements for a sample of the population. The project is in two 211u001ephases. Phase I was designed to develop survey methodologies and to conduct a 211u001esmall scale survey. Phase II will include a large scale survey using the 211u001emethodology developed in Phase I. To achieve its goal, Phase I included two 211u001eseparate tasks: (1) A survey of personal magnetic field exposure on a sample of 211u001e200 randomly chosen adult individuals in the United States ('200-person 211u001estatistical sample), and (2) the development and testing of the protocol for 211u001ePhase II including selection of instrumentation and exposure metrics, assessment 211u001eof methods of recruitment of the participants to the survey, and assessment of 211u001ecost and quality of the data that would be obtained using various protocols. As a 211u001epart of this task, personal exposure measurements were made on a sample of 211u001econveniently chosen individuals, including infants, toddlers, school age 211u001echildren, and adults ('convenience sample'). The recommendations for Phase II are 211u001ederived from the analysis of the 200-person statistical sample survey, from the 211u001eexperience in conducting the survey, from the work performed to develop the 211u001eprotocol, and from the feedback received from the individuals who were apart of 211u001ethe convenience sample.
